Namibia, located in southwestern Africa, is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, including the Namib Desert, one of the world’s oldest deserts, and the wildlife-rich Etosha National Park. The country’s history is marked by centuries of indigenous cultures followed by European colonization. In the late 19th century, Namibia became a German colony known as German South West Africa, during which time the indigenous Herero and Nama peoples suffered immensely, notably in the early 1900s genocide. After Germany's defeat in World War I, South Africa administered the territory under a League of Nations mandate, imposing apartheid-like policies. Namibia's long struggle for independence was spearheaded by the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), culminating in the country’s internationally recognized independence in 1990. Today, Namibia is celebrated for its political stability, diverse cultures, and commitment to environmental conservation.
